Holli
December 15, 2012
So here is the deal.  My mom and dad left this morning and came home this afternoon with a CAT. Another cat in the house, oh my.  (She is sort of pretty)  I heard mom and dad saying she was so pretty and friendly and they got her at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.  They said the one lady that worked there said she is such a beautiful loving cat and has been at the rescue league for 6 months.  The poor thing is only a year old and spent half her life at the rescue league, even I know that's not cool!   So, because of the situation, I didn't disprove of her moving in. Penny and I had to give up our big cage and we are now having to spend time in the mini cage when the humans go away.  Mom said, this cat needs to stay in the cage for sure until she can get her to the vet on Monday to get checked out.  Then we have to slowly let her amongst the other animals.  I know Sam will just hiss and walk away.  Frankie is already sitting on the step and giving this new cat the evil eye.  But I think it'll all work out fine down the road a little bit!   The humans say they are pretty sure they will call her Holli.  But they aren't sure of the spelling and they aren't 100% sure of the name yet, but they seem to call her Holli when they talk to her so I think that name will stick!

I'm not sure, but there is something about this cat that I sort of like.  We'll see what kind of relationship we end up having!

Oh just to let you know my girl Katie has a few more days at college. She has her final exams this week, and she said her last final is on Wednesday, so she'll be home after that.  She'll be home until January 7th.  I'm excited, Christmas is coming up and I can't wait to see what Santa "Paws" leaves under the tree for me and the other dogs, and I guess he may leave something for the cats too!    I know I was a good boy this year. I can't say too much about Penny, but Jaybo was good, she's always good.  Sam is, well, Sam is Sam and Frankie is way too affectionate to me.  But generally she is a good cat.

In case mom and dad don't give me any computer time before Christmas!  Have a great Christmas and may Santa "Paws" bring you lots of bones or whatever you humans like!

Love,
Leonard

November 20, 2012.

My kid sister Katie got her wisdom teeth removed on Monday.  Last night she sort of looked like a chipmunk gathering nuts for the winter. Even though she had her wisdom teeth removed, she still seems like a smart cookie!  Not sure what kind of wisdom was removed.  She isn't feeling too bad, she just said her cheeks feel tight and the pressure is what bothered her last night.

I'm not sure how she is gonna eat turkey on Thanksgiving.  She is eating alot of applesauce and some ice cream.  She had Chinese last night.  But she is very careful what she eats.

Oh well, we will see how this turns out!
She looks a little different then she did on Saturday night when she went to the Military Ball with her boyfriend, Alex. I will have to remember to post that picture later!

Anyway, to all my human friends,
Happy Thanksgiving!

Love
Leonard

Mom and dad got a call from the vet on November 8th, 2012.  The cat they were trying to help, Bernie died that morning.  The vet and all the techs at the vet were so shocked as were mom and dad and all the animals here.  The cat was eating and seemed to be getting better. The vet said she ate breakfast and then died. They believe it was a heart attack.  Perhaps because she was so starved, only skin and bones and the fact that she had a lot of parasites, it may have weakened her heart. The poor little thing.  Not that I like cats, but this one had a better chance cause she was the same colors as I was, it had me thinking that maybe we were somehow a little related. I was gonna give this cat a chance.  Poor Bernie, Rest in peace.  At least the cat didn't die cold and starving under a tree somewhere.  She died and knew that not all people were bad people.  Many people were helping her at the end of the her life and she was warm and getting fed.  Now mom and dad will put her ashes on the shelf in the living room with the other animals they once shared their home and heart with!

Bernadette, I'm glad you came into our life!

November 4, 2012
Long story short, mom and dad and Katie brought this home  Basically she was in desperate need of a home and had a cold and my family couldn't bear the fact that she would be sleeping outside in the cold or in someone's cold garage again.  Mom is very upset, she said this kitty is much sicker then the folks thought. Mom said she is skin and bones and she has a cold and she seems to have the runs too.  Mom is very upset that she isn't eating and says she is gonna take the cat to the vet tomorrow.  I don't think she is related to me but she is the same colors as I am.

My family doesn't know her story and they are wondering how a beautiful declawed cat could be dropped off somewhere.  The poor girl couldn't have eaten much for days maybe even weeks.  She is 6 1/2 pounds and is a full grown cat. Our other cats weigh way more then that!  This kitty wouldn't eat today, yesterday she ate a piece of chicken and a little sort cat food.  Mom keeps trying but she won't eat. Mom thinks she is just so darn weak.  Poor kitty.

I just know my mom is very worried about the cat and if she'll even make it   The family is calling her Bernie.  (From Berndette on Big Bang Theory).  I guess even I will say a prayer for her tonight. For my mom's sake.

November 4th, 2012
This darn cat they call Frankie.  This is so humiliating.  I am snuggling next to my mom and that darn cat always has to move in and sit on mom's lap.  I really try to ignore the darn cat but she is licking my ear!! Hello, don't these dumb cats know I don't like them.

Happy Halloween Folks!

Okay I have to admit, I am not thrilled with the outfit. I was thinking I'm more the spiderman type.  But mom said I did't have any choices, it was this or a pumpkin.  A pumpkin wouldn't have fit my image at all. Penny would have to be the pumpkin.  I do have to admit, it sort of makes me look like a bad guy doesn't it?   I insisted that I had to wear it last night when I went with mom and dad to visit grammy. (That's my mom's mom who lives at Frederick Mennonite Commuity).  Grammy thought I looked so cute, "really?" I'm supposed to be tough, cute isn't tough, oh well, she is old and doesn't really understand.  She always says I look cute.   Everyone who saw me said "Look at the dog with the halloween costume!".   It was fun!  Good evening for all.  It was worth the effort of the silly suit! Next year I am gonna insist on spiderman!

By the way, "Happy Halloween".   Note to humans: don't give dogs any of your chocolate candy.  It's very bad for them.  To my dog friends that follow my blog, If your parents forget and hand you a piece of candy, have willpower and say "NO" to Candy!

Hope we can all have a Happy Halloween!  Hope this darn storm doesn't mess us up.
This is a picture my mom took the other morning of the neighbor lady walking her dogs.   She has three dogs just like we have at our house. Her dogs are our friends ,there names are  Molly, Copper and Dusty. The mom's name is Lindsay and she is our friend.  She comes to our house to feed the cats and birds when mom and dad are on vacation.

Don't the leaves look pretty in the morning?    What beautiful sight, the pretty leaves and my good friends!   Doesn't get much better than this, unless of course, you are getting a people food treat!  People food tops everything!   :)
Does this look cool or what?  It is an abandoned turnpike tunnel.  Dad and his friend Dave took a trip to western PA last Saturday to check them out!   Mom and dad had checked them out over 20 years ago.  But Dave and dad did it and it was legal this time.  The road between the two abandoned tunnels is now open for hiking or biking.  Dad and Dave explored the tunnel (I think I would have been scared).  Then they biked to the other tunnel and checked that out. They had cool pictures, but I only borrowed this one.

August 28, 2012
So mom tells me that this is where my kid sister Katie is living right now.  She said they call it a college dorm room.  I miss her, she gave me treats. Dad says he sees her at school, since Dad teaches at the same college that Katie attends.  I don't know if they'll ever take me to visit her at college or not but mom did tell me that she will be coming home alot over the weekends. That's good, then I'll get to see her and beg her for treats while she is here.  Meanwhile, Frankie (that darn cat) thinks she can take over Katie's room. I keep finding Frankie sleeping on Katie's bed.  Darn, I should have thought of taking over that bed, I can't now, it's all full of CAT hair.  (Gross)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Katie when she comes home for the weekend.  She is gonna come home with dad when he comes home from school on Friday.  She says she'll probably go up with him on a Monday morning and come home with him on a Friday night.  She doesn't really need a car up at school and this saves gas,and if I know dad, he'll really love the idea of driving his daughter to school.

That's all for now!  Have a great rest of your week.

August 18, 2012
Since I'm the only one with a blog, my friends, Penny and Frankie, asked me if I would post this picture of Katie and us just hanging out sleeping.  We know Katie will be leaving for college on Friday and we know she'll be home on weekends, but we will miss her alot doing the week.  The summer was fun with her.  Katie and dad stay up late at night to watch tv and movies.  Penny and I usually go to bed with mom but when we hear them eating something downstairs, we come down and visit them and beg for food.  Which usually works.  Anyway, Katie, we want you to enjoy college and do well, but come home and let us hang out and sleep with you!     We love you Katie, you are our favorite kid, who is growing up too fast!

July 2012
Mom, dad and Katie went on vacation. They took dad's friend Bob along too.  Dad and Bob left almost a week before mom and Katie. Dad and Bob climbed some mountains, I heard dad say they climbed to the high point in Arizona and then the high point in New Mexico and they went to a baseball game in Arizona. They saw the Arizona Diamonbacks play the Seattle Mariners.    Then mom and katie took us to our vacation spot.  (We got to go to the vet for the week, but you know, it wasn't too bad, they didn't give us any shots, or medicines. There was alot of activities during the day, so we were all so tired, Penny, Jay and I slept well at night.  The only drawback, is they gave us a bath, oh well, we did smell good to go home).
Mom, Katie, Dad and Bob talked like they did alot of touring.  They mentioned Frank Lloyd Wright's house, Scenic route 89A, Jerome Arizona (they talked about a Kaleidoscope Store that they really liked in jerome).  They talked about Route 66, Standing on the corner in Winslow Az, the Petrified Forest, the Painted dessert, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and even Las Vegas. They talked about how they were in 4 states at one time. How do you do that?  Oh, I just heard dad say it's the corner where 4 states meet, so you can stand in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona all at the same time.  That is unusual, I am sure I'll never get to do that! Oh well.    They kept mentioning it was hot.  We were in air conditioning most the time, which was awesome, so it wasn't hot for us!  Oh well, that is what I picked up listing to my family to figure out where they were for more then a week!

My girl Katie is now a high school graduate!  I'm so proud of her!
On Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 Katie graduated
from Boyertown Area Senior High School.
She said there were 548 other kids that graduated.
I wonder how many of those
kids have faithful animals like Katie has?

Katie wore the yellow stole for Future Business Leasers of America, the white one for National Honor Society, a yellow/blue cord for Newspaper writing and then she added a green cord for community service.  My kid Katie is a busy girl, but she always has time to love us animals.

We are gonna have to plan a graduation party to celebrate her accomplishments!

I love my Katie!

This is my kid, Katie.  She went to her senior prom.  Isn't her dress just beautiful?  She looks like a princess. I think she must have been the prettiest one at the prom!  I think she is so special!

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

No, it's not a dead cat it's just Sam out there sunning herself! What a cat!  What a relaxing life she has!  I really wanted to just jump on her and scare the crap out of her, but I was a good boy and just laughed at the silly cat!

Here is my kid Katie! I love my mommy and daddy, but I love my Katie too!  Last night she came home from work and her and I just hung out on the sofa.  I'm not sure where my sister Penny was, but that's okay. I needed bonding time with my kid Katie!  Just me and her!  So much fun!

Have a great weekend. Mom told me there were no plans for the weekend so I'm glad we can all hang out together!  I like this family that adopted me!  .

This kid at our house, Katie, she is pretty special.  I mean, we all love her, but I think alot of outsiders love her too.  The other Saturday night, April 28th, Mom, Dad and Katie got all dressed up. They family went out for the evening. Of course, no one bothered to take any of us dogs along (as usual).   They came back with flowers and certificates and kept talking about all these special people that were honored tonight.  They talked about a citizen of the year, educator of the year, police person, fireman and high school senior. I think Katie got the Outstanding High School Senior award, she doesn't seem to fit any of the other categories. Also, that is what I read on the plaque that they brought home with them, so I am sure she was the outstanding high school senior. I found this picture in the family computer. I thought maybe you'd enjoy it! Isn't our Katie pretty?   I can't wait to see her in her prom dress.  She brought that in the house tonight, but had it hiding in a bag. I guess we'll see it later.

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Last Sunday was a miserable day. It was raining so much.  Most of the day Penny and I were in our cage, from what I heard mom say, they had to go to Philadelphia so Katie could get some kind of award.  I think mom called it a Gold Girl Scout Award or Girl Scout Gold Award.  Either way, they ventured out in the nasty rainy weather, I was very concerned for their safety but they came home safely with a bunch of things. Then in the evening Katie locked us out of the living room.  She wanted to set all her certificates on the floor and didn't want us to walk on them.  All she would have to do is ask, and I wouldn't have walked on them.  Oh you know what, Penny would never have understood, so I guess it's okay that she locked us out of the living room while she took some pictures. I found this picture on their computer. I guess this is the picture mom took of Katie and all her certificates.

Today I would like to take time to reflect on the Titanic.  So many people became victims of this great disaster.  Have you thought about the dogs on board?  According to records I have found, there were at least 12 dogs on board, of which only 3 survived.  The three dogs that survived were little dogs and they were smuggled onto the lifeboats.  "Lady," a Pomeranian who had been bought in Paris, had shared the cabin with her master, Miss Margaret Hays, who wrapped Lady in a blanket when ordered to evacuate.  The other two dogs were a Pomeranian (name unknown) owned by the Rothschilds Family. and a Pekingese named "Sun Yat-Sen"owned by Henry Harper.
Other dogs that were on the ship who did not survive included a toy poodle, a Fox Terrier named "Dog" and a Airedale named "Kitty."  There was also a Great Dane owned by 50 year old Ann Elizabeth Isham, who adored her dog and visited it each day in the ship's kennel.  When she was evacuating she asked to take her dog.  She was told the dog was too large, so she refused to leave without her dog and even get out of the lifeboat.  Several days later, the body of a woman clutching a large dog was spotted by crew of the recovery ship.
I need to mention that generally there was a cat kept by the crew on board ships to help with the mouse population aboard ship.   It was said that there was a cat with young kittens aboard this ship when it started its voyage,  but when the ship arrived in Southampton she was seen disembarking.  She retrieved all her kittens and disappeared.  Did she have some sort of premonition about the voyage?
So please, today as you remember the human victims of the Titanic, also remember the dogs victims of this horrible disaster!
RIP my dear friends. In heaven we shall meet!
